Kenansville Baptist Church in Kenansville, North Carolina asked me to speak at an event for their youth this past August. As we began planning for the event, they asked if I could design a poster to promote the event. I worked together with my friends, Maggie Andre, and Forrest Strickland on the idea. We decided to call the event, the Youth Swag Event. For the purposes of our event, the term swag meant, Shouldn’t We Ask God. Forrest Strickland came up with an alternative meaning. (Some Wonder About God) Swag is a term that can mean different things to different people. It is commonly used in pop culture today to describe someone who is very confident. In other words, it’s short for the term swagger.
If you have read this website much or have read my book, you know that I lost my son, Chase to drugs. It was a wreck that killed him, but it was the choices he made to use drugs and the choices he made as a result of using drugs that ultimately took his life. The main purpose of the Youth Swag Event was to educate young people about the dangers of drugs and to show them how important it is to make wise choices.
Below is the video from my speech at the Youth Swag Event. I will make a post later that will contain Forrest Strickland’s presentation. Forrest involved his dog Niko in his performance. The kids loved it. My friends, Alan and Debbie Hunter from Texas flew in to be part of the Swag Event. Alan and Debbie lost their daughter, Jessica, to the drug Molly when she took one pill, for the first time at a concert while she was in college. I will also post video of Alan’s presentation in a later post. Stay tuned for some blog updates. I’ve been really busy, so I’m just now catching up a little.
